Open Wide for Whole Foods Arlington's Cronuts

Cronut mania is amazingly/disgustingly showing no signs of abating in New York, leaving some Bostonians wondering where they can get their hands on a local knock-off. During the summer, The Gallows briefly offered "cro-nots" and Sportello featured weekly "dossants," but they've since disappeared. (Sportello is now featuring cider donuts instead.) Now, there's a new croissant + doughnut (= heaven?) option in town.

After a tipster reported the availability of cronuts at the grand opening of the Whole Foods in Arlington earlier this week, a rep confirmed to Eater that they will launch officially on October 1st. Stay tuned for details on price and availability. The flavors offered on opening day were raspberry, ginger, and chocolate. Hopefully these pastries won't trigger a line like the usual one at New York's Dominique Ansel Bakery, home of the original (and trademarked) cronut. (Eater Boston previously waited in that line so that you wouldn't have to.) And hopefully Whole Foods will come up with a creative name for their cronut knock-off, because Ansel's legal team has been cracking down on anything with a name too close to "cronut."
