West Roxbury and Newtonville both have Rox Diner, and now there's a third restaurant in the little family — Rox Cafe in Newton Highlands, in the former Bakers' Best space. Owner John Fortin tells the Boston Globe that the cafe differs slightly from the diners. "We've taken the basic values when it comes to our approach to cuisine and service, but we've narrowed it down a little bit to something that is not as extensive as our diner menus." The 60-seat restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, has a full bar, and also has a market with takeout food.
The menu varies with the seasons and the availability of locally sourced ingredients, but for the waning days of summer, you might find things like a Maine lobster roll on Iggy's brioche, a grilled eggplant wrap, and lots of dishes featuring figs.
