The newest Potbelly Sandwich Shop opened this morning at 7am at 1 Porter Square, the long-empty former Pizzeria Uno space by the Shaw's plaza. Potbelly, a Chicago-based chain with over 270 locations, is also on both Washington St. and Federal St. downtown, and there's one at Logan Airport. On the menu: "toasty warm" sandwiches, shakes and smoothies, and soups and salads.
While it's quite a large chain, Potbelly prides itself on "eclectic décor" in each shop, hearkening back to its roots in an antique store. There are live lunch performances by local musicians, and each location has events that support a non-profit in the area. The Porter Potbelly had a pre-opening party to raise funds for Green Streets Initiative, an organization that promotes sustainable and active transportation. The restaurant is open from 7am to 9pm on weekdays and 11am to 9pm on weekends.
