The 25-year-old Harvard Square location of Bertucci's will close permanently at the end of today's business hours, according to Boston Restaurant Talk, citing a press release that says that the landlord wanted a different retailer for the spot. Bertucci's willingness to renovate or update the concept was apparently not enough to keep the restaurant alive, but all staff members were reportedly offered positions elsewhere. Nearly 100 locations remain operational, spread across New England and the Mid-Atlantic region; the original location opened in Somerville's Davis Square in 1981 but has since closed. Bertucci's is best known for its brick-oven pizza. In a recent interview with Eater Boston, comedian and Marblehead native Rob Delaney called Bertucci's "a fine chain" that "makes really good pizza."
