Shake Shack could be coming to Faneuil Hall, a reliable tipster tells Eater Boston. The lease isn't signed yet, but it's reportedly in the works. A site selection consultant who would be involved in such a deal provided no comment, and Faneuil Hall and Shake Shack provided no official responses to requests for confirmation. A second reliable tipster with inside knowledge of a potential deal has "nothing concrete to share" at the moment and stresses that "rumors often circulate about new Shake Shack locations." The Faneuil Hall marketplace is currently home to more than 50 restaurants, from fast-food stands along the concourse to large anchors like mega-chain Wagamama, so if the rumors are true, Shake Shack will be in good, busy company.
This is pure speculation, but Faneuil Hall has one significantly tantalizing space that's open at the moment. The glass-walled, stand-alone property that used to house a flower shop seems like a good match for the Shake Shack aesthetic, hearkening back to Shake Shack's original location in NYC's Madison Square Park.
Tipster #1 also reports that the strongly rumored upcoming Harvard Square Shake Shack is mere weeks away (or less) from getting started with permitting, while tipster #2 states that the "next confirmed Boston area Shack," ostensibly that same Harvard Square one, "will open in Cambridge in late fall 2013."
And in other Shake Shack news, all new locations will serve fresh-cut fries instead of the frozen crinkle-cut ones, and existing locations are in the process of upgrading their kitchens to also make the switch.
