Chicago-based chain Potbelly Sandwich Shop is opening a new downtown location inside One Federal Plaza on August 6th, mere blocks away from its existing one on Washington St., not to mention the approximately 75 other sandwich shops downtown. And there's another Potbelly at Logan, and Porter Square is coming soon.
But, there are some cool things about Potbelly, despite the fact that it is increasing the one thing of which Boston has more than enough, even more than froyo. For one, during a pre-opening event, the restaurant will raise funds for Friends of the Children-Boston, an organization that engages "children from high-risk communities in 12 years of transformative mentoring relationships." Also, Potbelly has been into live music since its first days in Chicago in 1977, and shops around the country support their local music scenes by bringing in musicians for lunchtime performances.
The new Potbelly location will only be open on weekdays, from 7am to 6pm, while its nearby sibling is open on weekends. In addition to sandwiches, Potbelly has other lunch-friendly items like soups and salads. And "hand-dipped" milkshakes for those late-afternoon escape-from-your-desk cravings.
