Devra First heads south to check out North, a nine-month-old restaurant in Providence that is small and doesn't take reservations. The self-described "American restaurant" strikes First as one that "takes the form of Asian flavors, sliced apart and recombined with boldness, humor, and intelligence." But none of that is important, because this is a recommendation enough: "Maybe once a year, if I'm lucky, I get to eat somewhere that blows my mind," writes First. "I just got my taste for 2013."
