It's time for the first stop on your Greasy Spoons Week tour of special dishes, created by ten chefs around town. jm Curley executive chef Samuel Monsour is gifting the world with Rocky's BBQ Chicken Pizza this week, while supplies last. Here's Monsour on the dish's inspiration:
"One of the best parts of attending the CIA in Hyde Park, NY was all of the great diners. After getting out of the bars around 4:30 in the morning, we'd jump in the old time travel machine ('96 Mazda pickup) and somehow miraculously arrive at the Palace Diner. I'd always get Rocky's BBQ Chicken Sandwich, which was two chicken breasts still connected — extra cartilage, please — on griddled sourdough with cheddar, crispy fried onions, shitty bbq sauce, cilantro and fries. I'd always ask for extra cilantro and a side of sour cream for dunking. Killer flavor profile for a drunk."
Monsour's homage to the sandwich is Rocky's BBQ Chicken Pizza with Vermont cheddar, caramelized onions, French fries, cilantro, and jammama sauce, which is basically a very potent chimichurri folded into sour cream. $14 until it sells out, so get in while you can.
