RIP Pat McDonagh; A Bronwyn Glossary

DORCHESTER - Family and neighbors are mourning the sudden death of Patrick G. 'Pat' McDonagh, a lifelong Dot resident and the operator of Pat's Trattoria in Southie's Perkins Square. McDonagh previously owned Pat's Pizza of Lower Mills. McDonagh was 60. [Dorchester Reporter]

HUB-WIDE - No. 9 Park chef de cuisine Scott Jones and Harvard microbiologist Ben Wolfe release their inaugural piece in Boston Magazine. Their column, Chefology, will examine the intersection of science and fine food. This month's piece is about fermentation, and how its use can help the Jerusalem artichoke shed its moniker "fartichoke." [BM]

CAMBRIDGE - The owners of Bronwyn share this handy glossary of Eastern European food with the Herald. Know your knish from your knodel. [BH]

QUINCY - Maggy's Lounge, which recently soft-opened, shares their menu. Pizzas are as-you-like-it, with no specialty pies listed. Plenty of suggested cocktails using a wide range of flavored vodkas, though. Raspberry vodka and merlot: in the same glass! [PDF]
