A beloved food nerd destination in Chelmsford, Gene's Chinese Flatbread Cafe, is due to open a new location on Bedford St. between Chinatown and Downtown Crossing next month, according to Chowhound user mjg0725. The restaurant confirmed the expansion with Eater. To start, it will just be open for lunch, but dinner (and some new menu items) could come later. Tiny Urban Kitchen reviewed the Chelmsford hole-in-the-wall last year, ecstatic to find hand-pulled noodles (which she hadn't been able to find in Boston). "The texture was far better than any noodle in Boston - period," she wrote. "It was thick, chewy, and had that perfect 'QQ' bite to it. Tossed with tons of garlic, chili powder, cilantro, and scallions, it is absolutely loaded with flavor, and really quite addictive, might I add." The flatbread mentioned in the name refers to the sandwiches on the menu, "marinated, shredded meat between freshly-baked Chinese flatbread."
