Brookline's Umami Shutters; Redbones Coming to Malden

BROOKLINE - Asian fusion restaurant Umami has called it quits after nearly three years in business on Beacon Street. Boston Restaurant Talk reports that "a new concept — presumably from the same owners — may be on the way." Stay tuned. [Boston Restaurant Talk]

MALDEN - The barbecue slingers at Redbones will open a new restaurant and nano-brewery in Malden, GrubStreet reports. No word yet on opening date for the spot, which promises "decidedly campy" decor and an outdoor beer garden. The third location joins Redbones spots in Davis Square and the Kendall "Rib Shack." PITTSBURGH - Is Pennsylvania's Steel City stealing away Boston chefs and restaurateurs? Maybe. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette talks to recent industry transplants about the city's appeal. Says onetime Boston resident Andrew Hill (formerly of Ten Tables and Craigie on Main), Pittsburgh has the better system for purveyor deliveries: "In Boston, you had to pick and choose your battles, and worry whether each of these small outfits would come through with deliveries, and when." [Post-Gazette]
