The H Mart planned for Central Square in Cambridge that was originally expected to open this past winter will likely not be able to open until next winter. The Cambridge Day reports the chain of Asian markets and its landlord neglected to inform power utility Nstar about the impending location in the former Harvest Co-Op and Clear Conscious Cafe building. $450,000 of equipment and several months of time will be required to upgrade the capacity of the electric grid in the area to support the new store. H Mart has locations in 13 other states; the only one in Massachusetts opened in Burlington in 2009. In addition to the markets, H Mart stores also have extensive Asian food courts.
H Mart had previously been considering a move into the former Central Square Blockbuster, but that building will soon become the reincarnation of ManRay. Cambridge city councillor Ken Reeves, having spoken with H Mart officials in Burlington, predicted an opening "maybe by November."
