Breaking: Hungry Mother Team Opening State Park

Photo: Yelp/Cathy S.

The team from Kendall Square favorite Hungry Mother is indeed opening a second venue as previously indicated. Hungry Mother co-owner John Kessen tells Eater that the new venue will be called State Park, which is presumably another reference to Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, Virginia, near where chef Barry Maiden grew up. State Park is headed for the former Think Tank space, not far from Hungry Mother, at One Kendall Square. Kessen says that State Park will be more casual than Hungry Mother but will share its Southern influences in some dishes, including fried chicken and pulled pork. Clearly, prior plans for the new venue to do deli are not materializing here. There will be a bar, pinball, and one menu all day, with the expected hours of 11AM to 12AM. The lease is signed: expect a September opening. In other Hungry Mother news, Maiden was recently a finalist for the James Beard Foundation award of Best Chef Northeast.
