Tufts student Maximus Thaler hopes to open a free restaurant in Somerville supplied entirely from dumpster-dived ingredients called The Gleaners' Kitchen. Thaler is pictured above with one of his prized finds, which he explains in the project's fundraising video:
This is an orchid we found in the dumpster a few month ago. We watered it regularly, and now it is blooming. This plant, for me, is the embodiment of what we are trying to do: make new life out of the trash.
