Yes, Tico is Expanding to DC

Photo:Sophia Tsakmaklis

Michael Schlow's Latin-leaning Back Bay restaurant Tico is indeed expanding to Washington, DC. That move has been rumored for nearly a year now, after the DC blog PoPville reported that "a restaurant from Boston called Tico" was allegedly headed to the nation's capital last July. Now, the Washington City Paper confirms it, saying "Boston-based celebrity chef Michael Schlow is opening Tico in the Louis at 14 development from JBG Companies just south of U Street NW" (which is the same site previously reported by PoPville). And that's not Schlow's only gig in town. The same article says that the chef/restaurateur, who also owns Radius, Via Matta, Barrio Cantina and more - is developing a menu for another local venue: Vida U Street. Rad as Boston restaurants may be, few become exports, though it does happen: South End tapas supernova Toro is poised to open in New York City.
