Shortly after winning Top Chef: Seattle, Kristen Kish, a chef de cuisine at the Barbara Lynch demonstration kitchen and cookbook store Stir, has rocketed to the position of chef de cuisine at Lynch's fine dining Fort Point restaurant Menton, the only in the city with Relais & Châteaux status (and AAA Five-Diamond and Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star ratings). The announcement comes from a representative for Barbara Lynch Gruppo, as the chef's company is called, who notes that Kish will take up her new role on June 3. In a statement for the press, Lynch says "Watching her – along with the rest of the country- ultimately win Top Chef reinforced what I already knew: she is an exceptionally gifted chef with amazing heart, integrity, and an incredible understanding of what it takes to create beautiful and delicious dishes." In other words, winning Top Chef didn't hurt, and now she's suddenly in one of the most prestigious cooking positions in town. And as for anyone who wonders about the impact of food tv on real-live restaurants, there you have it. Now, when will Kish get her own restaurant?
