SOUTH END - Here's a bunch of "Gut-busting New England food challenges" from Boston.com. For instance, the "burger challenge" at Andre's Cafe in the South End: "In 45 minutes or less, contestants must eat four half-pound burgers filled with toppings of their choosing and includes a half pound of fries." BACK BAY - What had been the Newbury Street location of the bankrupt pizza chain The Upper Crust is on its way to becoming another location of Brighton's Proper Slice. UniversalHUB says the new owners have been approved but are waiting on getting the old pizzeria's beer and wine license. [UH via GS]

TBD - Now that Kristen Kish of Stir in the South End has won the latest season of Top Chef, let the restaurant speculation begin! Zagat hears that Kish might open her own place in Boston " this year or in a couple of years" before possibly expanding to other cities. [Z]
