11 Local Restaurants Not Taking Credit Cards Today

New, 4 comments

Several local restaurants and mobile vendors including Falafel Corner in Harvard Square and The Chubby Chickpea food truck are not accepting credit cards today. Instead, they're taking cash or payments made through LevelUp via smartphone. A representative from LevelUp describes the event as a "credit card diet" and says that restaurants in other cities around the country are participating as well. In a press release, Falafel Corner owner Ahmed Naguib says "We're in the good fight to eliminate credit card interchange fees, which do no good for our business," calling today's action "just the first step in convincing our customers that it's OK to go on a credit card diet permanently when they visit us." More credit card-free days are planned for the future both in Boston and beyond.

Correction: Eleven area restaurants are participating, not 14, as previously reported. See below for those involved.
