Here's some further clarification about recent changes in the Il Panino universe. Il Panino Express has closed in the North End and will reemerge as the full-service Ristorante Quattro, which is slated to open in March. But like the Harry Potter villain Voldemort, Il Panino Express did not vanish from this earth just because its physical embodiment was vanquished. Instead, also like Voldemort, it divided its soul into two new establishments. Il Panino Cafe & Grill just opened in JP, as previously reported. Meanwhile, the existing DePasquale's Homemade Pasta Shoppe in the North End is absorbing lost Il Panino Express fans by serving sandwiches from Il Panino Express there. Over in JP, Il Panino Café & Grill offers the full Il Panino Express menu, plus some dishes from Gail's Café & Grill, like burgers and barbecue, which previously occupied this Jackson Square space.
When Ristorante Quattro opens at 264 Hanover Street, it will serve Neapolitan pizza, handmade pasta, sfizi (small stuff), entrees, beer, wine and cordials.
Note: Unlike Voldemort, Il Panino Express is not evil and sells sandwiches.
