State Park, the new bar from the Hungry Mother team, laughed in the face of winter and opened up last night at 5pm. The bar hadn't revealed too many details prior to opening, but the website materialized last night, complete with a menu. (It's "subject to change," as the website indicates, so "please don't get your heart set on anything.")
Some highlights: lots of pickled things. Pickled andouille, pickled eggs, pickled okra. Fun-to-order things like a "salad bar salad" and a "charred char sandwich." The intriguingly named "Memphis BBQ spaghetti." Prices are refreshingly low all around. On the drink side, there are pitchers of cocktails, "day drinks" like green chartreuse & coffee, shot & a beer combos, and a few simple house wines (pick French or Italian). Also, you can get quarters for games like tabletop shuffleboard.
State Park serves food from 5pm until midnight Tuesday through Sunday, and it's open for drinking until 1am Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights and 2am Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
