In celebration of its fifth anniversary, Sportello is killing its bakery section, crushing the hopes and dreams of office workers throughout Fort Point. November 22nd will be the last day for "lunchboxes, take-out coffee, breakfast, pastry and grab-n-go items," the restaurant reports on Facebook. With the bakery gone, Sportello plans to take "a renewed focus on what we do best — serving incredible Italian dishes alongside an artisanal wine list."

Sportello's website shares more details behind the decision: "Fort Point has come alive since Sportello opened five years ago and the neighborhood now has excellent options for coffee, bakery items and sandwiches allowing Sportello to pass the torch along to their neighbors." The change will result in seating for 18 more people, including space for larger parties of up to 10 diners, and the bakery counter will become a wine bar. The new hours will be 11:30am to 11pm every day. Renovations will take place over a day and a half during the week of Thanksgiving; exact dates and times have not yet been announced.
