Ittoku, a Japanese restaurant in the former Petit Robert space on Comm. Ave., opened yesterday, according to a tipster, who also notes that there will be a grand opening event on Monday night. The opening can't be confirmed officially at this time — phone calls have gone unanswered, and there are no recent updates on the restaurant's Facebook page — so hit up the tipline if you're in the neighborhood and can confirm.
According to the restaurant's Facebook page, Ittoku is an izakaya, a casual Japanese drinking establishment where the sake is front and center and the food accompanies it. A photo of the exterior signage promises sushi and yakitori.
Nearly a year ago, the blog "Japanese-American in Boston" reported that Ittoku would be "a joint venture between Carlos Garcia of Café Mami, Manabu Ito and Taiji Miheo from Sapporo Ramen, and Chiki-san, a sushi chef at Ebi Sushi," but it's unclear if the same team is still in place. Sapporo and Café Mami are two of the most popular stalls at Porter Exchange, and Ebi Sushi is in Somerville's Union Square. In late August, it appeared that Yakitori Zai's yakitori chef Sho Inoue was also onboard with Ittoku.
