Tornado Restaurant & Lounge, a new Malden restaurant serving "Asian-inspired tapas," softly opens today, general manager Shanie Leung tells Eater. The restaurant comes from two friends, Leung and Jenny Le, who met at Malden High more than a decade ago who saved up money from after-school jobs to go to a restaurant together each week.
Tornado's website promises "small plates with unexpected flavor combinations stemming from diverse global cuisines," and along those lines, the menu delivers options like shrimp rellenos with crab meat and caviar, a beef teriyaki pretzel sandwich with togarashi aioli, and Brussels sprouts tempura with spicy ketchup. Tornado has a full liquor license, and it will be open from 11:30am to midnight Monday-Wednesday, 11:30am to 1am Thursday-Saturday, and 5pm-10pm Sunday.
