Fundraisers for Injured Fairsted Bartender Alex Homans

"I would not be where I am today without him. He is one of the most dedicated, hospitable and overall best bartenders in the city," said Russell House Tavern's Sam Gabrielli about Fairsted Kitchen bartender Alex Homans. Homans was cycling to work a week prior to the opening of the Brookline restaurant when he was hit by a car, suffering a fractured vertebra and separated shoulder. It may be more than three months until he is able to work again. Homans has been working in the Boston dining community for nearly ten years, having tended bar at Temple Bar, Russell House, backbar, Flora, and others.

Colleagues and friends past and present are holding multiple fundraisers to assist Homans as he recovers and waits for any insurance payments, and a running list is being maintained by Patrick Maguire of the industry blog Server, not Servant. Through tonight, backbar is offering a Time Out for Alex. Until further notice, Fairsted is selling one of Homans's drinks called the Vin d'Orange, and Arlington's Flora is offering a Brandy Alexander. All proceeds from the drinks at these restaurants will go directly to Homans. Hear of any other fundraisers? Please leave a comment below.
