Earlier Hours for Union Sq. Donuts; More Life Alives

UNION SQUARE — Union Square Donuts now opens at 7am instead of 8am on Thursdays and Fridays to give folks on their way to work a better shot at picking up donuts en route. The shop closes at 1pm on Thursday and Friday, and weekend hours remain 8am to 3pm. Did someone say maple bacon donut? [Instagram]

HUB-WIDE — Life Alive, which currently has locations in Cambridge's Central Square, Salem, and Lowell, recently announced that it would be opening a second location in Cambridge. Now, it seems even more could be on the way; a Craigslist posting mentions "several more in the coming years." [BRT]

SOUTH END — A tipster tells Eater that according to a building permit posted in a window, a new unnamed bakery is going into the former Amsterdam Cafe space on Columbus Ave. "Demo is well underway and the walls are beginning to be framed out," he indicates. "Looks like they are moving pretty fast...the space was used the other day for the filming of HBO's new show "Olive Kitteridge" — and then construction started right after." [Eater Tipster]
