With St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay refusing to allow Boston's Mayor Tom Menino one final sports wager as he finishes out his reign, food and drink companies in both cities have stepped up to the plate (sorry). First, fifteen food trucks in each city have placed World Series themed items on their menus and are asking customers to vote online for their favorites. Voting will end as the Series concludes. No word yet on what rewards (or punishments) await the winning (or losing) city.
Not to be outdone by Boston's trucks, local brewers Harpoon and Sam Adams have made wagers with St. Louis's Schlafly. If the Sox bring home the World Series Cup (we're going to miss you, Mumbles), a keg of Harpoon IPA will be poured in Schlafly's tap room and Schlafly will send a brewer to Boston to help founder Jim Koch brew a Sox victory beer. If the unthinkable happens and the Olde Towne Team loses, Sam will send a brewer to St. Louis and Harpoon will be forced to pour Schlafly beer in their beer garden.
