The last remaining location of Charley's, a self-described saloon, has now closed in the Mall at Chestnut Hill. This closure follows on the heels of the September shutdown of the Charley's on Newbury Street, which had been around for forty years. Now, there are none left. The restaurant's website says the closure is permanent and notes that gift cards will be honored at restaurants run by the same group (Tavistock Restaurants), including Joe's American Bar & Grill and Abe & Louie's. Wicked Local Newtown quotes a representative for the company, who admits that Charley's had "an older style" that apparently could no longer cut the mustard. And that's no surprise, given the fact that nearby neighbors will soon include the likes of the blazing hot Shake Shack. This location of Charley's had been open for about twenty years, and once upon a time there were others, though they've since become Joe's American Bar & Grills, says Wicked Local.
