The 75-year-old Frank's Steak House in Cambridge is more of an experience than it is good, says the Globe. Katie Johnston notes that "lonely guys play Keno at the bar" while "Older customers with canes and portable oxygen make the trek" and dishes are under-salted "out of concern for customers with high blood pressure." So how's the food? More than one dish has "only a hint of flavor," even the server says not to get the pasta, and clam chowder is "a gluey stew." After all those years, Frank's gets just one star. Just getting drinks at South Boston newcomer Lincoln Tavern and Restaurant would be "a mistake," says Richard Chudy, who assesses the restaurant's late-night menu in the latest Night Owl column for Chowder. The space itself is "a stunner" and the big, wood-fired oven produces "quite possibly the best pizza I've had in Boston." [C]

Tavolo Ristorante in Dorchester is "a fun and relaxed local hangout that attracts a very diverse crowd," says Boston's Hidden Restaurants. Chitarra carbonara is "near-perfect," chicken piccata is "zingy," and the pizza crust has "a nice char." All in all, Tavolo is "certainly worth checking out." [BHR]
