Canestaro to Lose Its Home in Fenway

After 20 years on Peterborough Street in Fenway, the neighborhood Italian restaurant Canestaro will soon be forced to make some major changes. The building that has housed Canestaro since 1992 will be demolished to make way for an apartment building, says Boston.com. The article notes that Canestaro was offered a space in the new building but chose not to take it, perhaps related to the length of time it would have to close as one building went down and another went up. Boston.com says that no other restaurant could be found to take its place, despite the wishes of community members, for whom Canestaro "was the heart of the neighborhood."

Canestaro serves Italian-American cuisine including fried calamari, caesar salad, subs, pizza, calzones, pasta and entrees along the lines of veal marsala and eggplant parmesan. The restaurant has yet to respond to a request about its future plans, so stay tuned and drop any intel of your own via the tipline.
