Just in case you were worried that there weren't nearly enough froyo places opening up around town, the previously announced arrival of NYC-based 16 Handles is now almost here. The "frozen playground" will open up in Coolidge Corner on Saturday, January 26, at 11:30 AM, offering 16 "rockin' kosher certified flavors" of frozen yogurt and a "mammoth toppings bar." The rotating flavor selection offers choices like "chocolate love affair," "blueberry tease," and "fist pumpkin," along with a variety of tart flavors, and the toppings bar encompasses fruits, nuts, candy, and sauces.

The name, aside from the obvious "16 Candles" pun, refers to the handles on the yogurt machines, because this place is totally DIY: fill your cup with yogurt(s), smother it with toppings, stuff your face. The "16" also refers to the fact that each 16 Handles location helps plant 16 trees each day via an organization called Trees for the Future.

The kid-friendly opening day festivities in Brookline include free yogurt, face-painting, balloon animals, and giveaways. And just one new froyo place is obviously not enough, so another location will also be "handling soon" in Boston proper, according to the 16 Handles website.
