The Urban Grape Is Now Officially Urban

Photo: Melissa Ostrow/UrbanDadd

The South End expansion of the The Urban Grape wine shop is now open on Columbus Ave. The original location remains open in Chestnut Hill, which isn't a particularly urban part of town, but the shop appears to be following the Boston Burger Company principle: open somewhere else, then expand to Boston proper in order to fulfill the destiny of your name. UrbanDaddy reports that the new, genuinely urban location has 760 different choices for wine, about 400 beers and roughly 70 sakes. That includes those 16 wines regularly available for tastings. UrbanDaddy notes that the massive tasting table will be the site of "battles" between local chefs, and Thrillist describes the interior as looking "kind of like what would happen if an Apple store and a library had a store baby that was really into booze." The Urban Grape officially opens in the South End today, September 20.
