The upcoming DooWee & Rice, bound for what was formerly East Asia in Somerville's Powderhouse Square, tells Eater that it hopes to open by the weekend of September 8. "I am on the edge of my seat counting down the minutes and seconds until I can finally open and do what I'm good at," says owner Duy Tran via email. Tran also shares a menu special unlike any other in the area. He writes:
Every couple weeks we will be having a designated night devoted to my mother's traditional Vietnamese soups such as Pho, Bun Bo Hue, and Bun Rieu. The process for some of these dishes start the night before with roasting and simmering bones with spices overnight which results in some of the most flavorful and aromatic soup broths most people have never had the pleasure to try. keep in mind these dishes have been prepared for my family by my mother for over 20 years and to this day have not changed.
He also has plans for Wednesday night movie screenings with films chosen by popular vote. On those nights, he'll try out new dishes served "tapas style" which will then be rated by customers. This place sounds fun.
