Cafe Burrito Now Open in Belmont

Photo: Rachel Leah Blumenthal

If you couldn't guess from the name, Cafe Burrito is part coffee shop, part burrito shop, and it's now open in the former space of Angelato in Belmont, next to Studio Cinema. The ownership of the movie theatre and Cafe Burrito is the same, so don't be surprised to find a stack of candy/popcorn snack mixes near the Cafe Burrito register. Starting at 6 AM Monday through Friday and 6:30 AM on the weekends, the "cafe" part comes into play with coffee and espresso drinks, pastries, and bagels. Mexican-inspired dishes like burritos, tacos, and "quesos a la plancha" (grilled cheese/quesadilla hybrids) become available at 11:30 AM. Cafe Burrito stays open until 8 PM most nights but 10 PM on Saturdays.

Other goodies: there's a variety of house-made salsas available, including a couple that rotate seasonally depending on available fruits and vegetables. If you get in soon, you'll be able to slather your late summer tacos with peach salsa. Also, Cafe Burrito sells small jars of the in-house chili powder mix. The menu was designed and is overseen by local food blogger Dan Whalen (The Food in My Beard), who previously made gelato at Angelato in the same location.
