Trattoria Newbury is now open in the former space of the Back Bay location of Bottega Fiorentina, which closed after an apparent severing of ties with the Coolidge Corner location of the restaurant. While the name has changed at the Back Bay spot, the ambiance and menu remain mostly the same, even down to identical item descriptions. Absent, however, is Bottega Fiorentina's trademarked "fedora" pasta sauce (a cream-based tomato sauce with rosemary and garlic), and most of the prices on Trattoria Newbury's menu have increased by $1-$2.
At Trattoria Newbury diners can choose from nine pastas (such as farfalle or spinach gnocchi) and fifteen sauces (such as bolognese or pesto). Also available: sandwiches, thin-crust pizzas, risotto, and a small selection of entrees, such as chicken milanese and sirloin steak. Since the pizzas take 20-25 minutes to prepare, diners may wish to secure seats on the patio, a prime spot in the midst of the Newbury Street foot traffic.
