It looks as though Church may no longer be the only religious-themed restaurant in town. The Jamaica Plain Gazette reports that a new restaurant called Centre Street Sanctuary is planning to open in what was formerly a Catholic church on the campus of Blessed Sacrament, which has since been redeveloped into affordable housing and retail. A church was first established here in 1891 with the rectory being built three years later; now it will become home to a restaurant with menu sections like "In the Beginning," "Creations" and "Temptations." Of course there will also be wine. The new owner intends for the 12 to 20-seat restaurant to function as a literal sanctuary in that the menu will cater to diners with dietary restrictions. Expect an October opening.
