Las Vegas-based Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery is looking to open its first New England location at 227 Parkingway in Quincy, but a nearby church disapproves, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. Perhaps the disapproval stems partly from the appearance of the waitstaff, "beautiful servers in sexy plaid kilts and matching plaid bras." Because the proposed location is within 500 feet of the church and plans to sell alcohol, the law requires a hearing to determine that the "premises are not detrimental to the educational and spiritual activities of said...church." (This also applies to schools.) Apparently Tilted Kilt notified a nearby cemetery of its proposed location but neglected to notify the church.
Earlier this month, the licensing board unanimously approved the pub's license, but the church's protest has led to a second hearing, which will take place at the end of August.
The sports pub has over 60 locations around the United States, although there's only one in New England so far (Wethersfield, Connecticut). According to its website, the Tilted Kilt management team consists of a "conspiracy theorist" and a "great guy." So that people can insist they only go here for the food, the menu includes such delicacies as mozzarella sticks, burgers, and fish and chips.
