O Ya has announced plans to offer classes on understanding, tasting and pairing sake starting in September. The classes will be led by Nancy Cushman, one of the restaurant's owners, and Alyssa DiPasquale, who manages O Ya, both of whom just so happen to be sake sommeliers. Cushman has studied sake in Japan under John Gauntner, who she regards as the world’s foremost sake expert, and has completed the highest level of professional sake certification, which she says makes her one of fewer than 100 people in the world to have achieved that level. The class, aka Sake 101, runs for 1.5 hours, pairs sake with O Ya dishes, and takes places on Saturday, September 15 and October 20. For more information, contact O Ya at 617.654.9900.
