Rumors about the invasion of Boston proper by burger-centric fast food chain Five Guys are true, and then some. A representative from Five Guys tells Eater that the company plans to open not one but two new locations downtown, at 58 Summer Street in Downtown Crossing and at 263 Huntington Ave near Northeastern. Though the company had originally hoped for a summer opening, both new locations are aiming to open by mid-November or December. Currently, the closest Five Guys are in Chelsea and Medford. What will the new ones serve? Exactly what every other Five Guys serves, including burgers, hot dogs, fries, sandwiches, and peanuts. And Five Guys is just one of many businesses getting in on what will surely be remembered as The Great Boston Burgxplosion of 2012.

In other burger news, Bobby's Burger Palace by celebrity chef Bobby Flay is coming to the burbs and maybe to Boston, Tasty Burger is expanding to South Boston and Harvard Square, Stella chef Evan Deluty has burger plans of his own, burger chain Smashburger hopes to bring 12 locations to Boston, and Wahlburgers is going national, starting right here.
