Michael Leaving Michael's Deli in Brookline

Earlier in the week, it appeared that Michael's Deli had been sold. Today, Boston Restaurant Talk confirms the news, adding that now-former owner Michael Sobelman will stay for a few months during the transition to new owner Steven Peljovich, previously Assistant GM at Hard Rock Cafe and Regional Director at John Harvard's Brew House. Steven will apparently keep the focus on the cuisine for which the deli is known, such as pastrami sandwiches and knishes, but he'll add more sandwiches and seasonal items. The new ownership may be a breath of fresh air for previous customers who have stayed away in recent years. While Michael's Deli has enjoyed a good reputation food-wise, Michael himself has been a sore spot for many customers, who fill review sites with complaints about his attitude and policies, particularly the "no reading" and cash-only rules.
