Just a month after celebrating the fifth anniversary of its Medford location, Yoki, a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar, opens a second location today in the former space of Floating Rock in Cambridge's Central Square on the same strip as oodles of other restaurants like, say, Central Kitchen. Will Yoki's "bold and robust" Boston sports-themed sushi rolls stand up to the nearby jazz-themed rolls of Thelonius Monkfish?
Yoki's sushi menu ranges from the simple standards (such as tuna sashimi) to elaborate rolls (such as the Bruins maki, a spicy cooked salmon, cucumber, and cream cheese roll topped with salmon, tempura flakes, spicy white tuna, tobiko, scallions, sweet sauce, and spicy mayo). For the sushi lovers who actually don't love sushi at all, there's an entire menu page dedicated to non-raw sushi.
Diners can order from the kitchen as well. Yoki will serve standard starters such as edamame, gyoza, and deep-fried oysters. Entrees include teriyaki (insert your favorite protein here), hibachi steak, and boiled eel. And because there's nothing better than ice cream except for fried ice cream, diners can finish off the meal with red bean or green tea tempura ice cream.
