iYo Cafe Bringing Self-Serve FroYo to Davis Square

Photo: Elizabeth Ginsburg

Just in time for summer, a new self-serve frozen yogurt cafe called iYo Cafe is moving into the space formerly occupied by Farmers' Bounty on Elm Street in Davis Square. Although froyo joints have been popping up elsewhere in the Boston, this will be the first in Davis square. While there are currently no frozen yogurt shops in the area, Davis Square does have JP Licks and Richardson's Ice Cream, both of which draw sizable crowds in the summertime. In addition to self-serve frozen yogurt, iYo will serve smoothies, make your own waffles, baked goods, dessert fondues, and will feature a full espresso bar and tea service. The name is an abbreviation of the words "individual" and "yogurt" emphasizing the shop's customized offerings. The cafe could become a destination for people looking for space to do work, as the space will have approximately 60 seats and wifi. There will also be a drawing room to hold small meetings or parties and a fireplace, you know, for when you get chilly from eating all that froyo. iYo Cafe is slated to open in late June or early July.
