Rosebud Diner in Davis Square May Close

Photo: Flickr/Improbcat

The historic Rosebud Diner in Davis Square is closing, says the owner's son. No it's not, says the owner. But clearly something's up if a member of the immediate family tells the local press that the restaurant is kaput. The Somerville Scout reports on conversations with both family members and confirms that Tasty Burger, which was rumored to be looking at the space, has nothing to do with it. Open since 1941, Davis Square's most iconic restaurant is on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of precious few remaining old-school diners in the area. Somerville's in the midst of a restaurant boom, and yet the Rosebud isn't quite hip to changing tastes. It's possible that it might live on as a piece of living pancake history, but it wouldn't be surprising if a hotter, newer concept moved in.
