A Benefit for Vinny; Bake Sales to Be Banned

NORTH END - The restaurant community is rallying to help support Neptune Oyster server Vinny Sapochetti, who was seriously injured in a car accident. A benefit for Sapochetti called Vinny's Tip Jar Fundraiser & Auction is being held at the Hotel Commonwealth, with tons of restaurants like Les Zygomates and Oleana participating. Monday, May 28th, 5pm to 10pm, tickets are $105 and include food and two drinks. [Official Site]

BACK BAY - The president of Ireland came to Boston over the weekend. Did he eat an Irish pub, like Matt Murphy's? No, says the Globe: "a restaurant on Boylston Street that served macrobiotic food." [BG]

STATE-WIDE - School bake sales are being banned starting this August, says the Herald. Proponents say the measure could help fight childhood obesity, others are concerned that the ban "“would seriously affect the bottom line of the PTOs." [BH via BostInno]
