Stephen Meuse Writes His Last Globe Wine Column

Longtime Globe wine writer Stephen Meuse got to write the only kind of article that includes the author's name in the title: a farewell piece. "Globe wine writer Stephen Meuse bids farewell," by Stephen Meuse, says that Meuse is "stepping away to take a job in the industry" after fifteen years on the beat. He takes this opportunity to reflect on how the scene has changed during his tenure.

At the top of the list is the rise of "boutique operators" who helped to create what Meuse calls "the postmodern wine shop," blending "neighborliness" and "sophistication." He also shouts out a few local postmodern wine shops, including the The Wine Bottega in the North End and Dave’s Fresh Pasta of Somerville, which will soon spawn an actual wine bar. For the time being, it seems Globe contributor Ellen Bhang will be taking it from here.
