After voting on fifteen different pizzerias throughout the city, you narrowed it down three: Pino's in Brighton, Posto in Davis Square, and Area Four in Kendall Square. Conspicuously absent from the final list were the infamous, old-school giants of the Boston pizza scene, namely Pizzeria Regina and Santarpio's. And now, after the finals round, it has come down to only one. Per your votes, the absolute best pizza in town belongs to...
Area Four! Chef-owner Michael Leviton, who also runs Lumière in Newton, opened Area Four one year ago this month, and the restaurant quickly became a poster child of the Kendall Square restaurant boom. Between its bakery/coffeehouse and bar/oven, the restaurant covers three meals a day and is best known for its superlative pizzas, which are leavened with chef Jeff Pond's ten-year-old sourdough starter before being blasted in the restaurant's wood-fired ovens. Congrats to runner-up Posto, which also has some damned fine pizza, to all of the participants, and to the winner.
