The North Carolina-based Counter Culture Coffee is heading for Somerville. The company already stocks several local coffeeshops, and according to an article on Boston.com, it plans to open a training center in Union Square like those it currently operates in Atlanta, NYC, DC and its home state.
Is it the kind of place where you can walk in and order a cup of coffee? Only sort of: "The company brews coffee for its in-house workshops and sells it to local coffee shops and restaurants... provides equipment and professional coffee training to its customers, who often use the roaster's training centers for focused learning." The facility is currently under construction and provides further proof of Union's advancing culinary status what with recent openings like Casa B and Backbar. Expect Counter Culture Coffee to open by summer.
