The last word we'd heard about the opening date for Yakitori Zai, which was originally going to be called Zai Sushi and Yakitori, was May 1st, but a calendar on the upcoming South End restaurant's website suggests they'll open for classes much sooner. According to the site, the first class, which will cover skewer technique, will be on Sunday, March 11th. The establishment is owned by the Snappy Sushi team and previously told the South End Patch that it intends to serve as a cultural center in addition to serving Japanese cuisine. The events list suggests that they'll be making good on that intention. There are classes and demos slated on a range of topics include sake pairing, dashi making, nabe (hotpot), and traditional work wear of a yakitori chef.
Update: since the time of this posting the schedule has been pushed back. See here for the current schedule.
