Alan Chen of Lotus Xpress says the Somerville restaurant plans to open sometime in January. Eater previously reported that Lotus Xpress was affiliated with a handful of upscale Asian restaurants throughout the burbs, but that's not quite right. Lotus Xpress will be a separate venture of just Chen and his father, Michael Chen, who has experience in the kitchens of several local Asian restaurants such as Changsho.
Lotus Xpress will be a "quick-casual" restaurant sans waitstaff; hence the "Xpress." The menu is still in progress, but a prior draft bodes well, suggesting Somervillians might soon have a new fix for in-house noodles and xiao long bao, aka soup dumplings. Stay tuned for further details and drop any of your own via the tipline.
Update: This post was updated to say that Lotus Xpress plans to open in January, rather than in December.
