The Home of Eastern Standard, Island Creek Oyster Bar and The Hawthorne Is Being Sold

The Hotel Commonwealth in Kenmore Square, an epicenter of Boston's food and drink scene, is about to be sold. Yes, the home of Eastern Standard, Island Creek Oyster Bar and The Hawthorne is set to be sold by the previous owner, Boston University, to Sage Hospitality of Denver, says the Herald, noting that "The purchase also includes leases for the upscale boutique hotel's retail and restaurant tenants." The deal will allegedly go through tomorrow, and though no official figure has been named, the Herald reports that "a source close to the deal put the price for the hotel alone in the range of $275,000 per room — or $41 million." The article makes no mention of any plans to change any of those three venues - which, frankly, would be a dumb move - and only says that guest rooms will undergo "cosmetic upgrades."
