Presenting a grab bag of goodies from the latest and juiciest Cinquecento press release! Here we go: the hugely anticipated, South End-bound, self-proclaimed "Roman trattoria" has narrowed down its opening timeframe to "right after Thanksgiving," and the menu will be divided into six sections. Those are: antipasti, zuppa e insalate, salumi, pesce e carne, contorni and piatti del giorno. Specific menu items will include warm ricotta fresca with olive oil and grilled bread (which is similar to what was once called toast); zuppa di fagioli with ham and kale; saltimbocca di vitello con carvolo, with veal and proscuitto; cabbage fonduta and marsala and porchetta arrosto, with roasted parsnips. So, Italian.
Yes, there will be weekend brunch, featuring bruschetta with an egg, pancetta and candied shallots; roasted mushrooms with more pancetta, a fried egg and ricotta salata; apple and taleggio panino with honey and walnut pesto; roasted porchetta panino with mostarda and bitter greens.
Yes, there will be wine. One hundred bottles, to be exact, four being served on tap. Also, expect cocktails drawing on Roman cuisine, lots of amaro, beers from at home and abroad, and of course coffee and espresso.
A few words on the space itself, which was once home to the now closed Rocca. There will be 126 seats in the main room, 22 at the bar, 56 in a private room and 60 more on the patio when weather permits. All together, that's over 250 for the math-challenged, making this one of the neighborhood's bigger restaurants. In terms of decor, there will be reclaimed wood and brick, Italian-looking leather seating, two communal tales and and onyx and Italian marble bar.
Cinquecento will be open seven days a week. Here's a breakdown of the hours:
The bar: Monday through Wednesday 4:00pm to 12am, Thursday and Friday 4:00pm to 1:00am, Saturday and Sunday 10:00am to 1:00am
The dining room: Sunday through Wednesday 5:30pm to 11:00pm, Thursday to Saturday 5:30pm to 12am.
Brunch: Saturday and Sunday 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Free antipasto alert: Monday through Friday, 4:00pm to 5:30pm.
